Following intense weeks of negotiations at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (Masaf), an agreement has finally been signed between livestock farmers and the dairy industry to set farm-gate milk prices for the beginning of the new year.
This agreement represents a fundamental step in ensuring stability for a strategic "Made in Italy" supply chain, protecting farmers' income against market fluctuations.
Agreement Details (January - March 2026)
The deal establishes a sliding price scale for the first three months of the year, with an overall average of 53 cents per liter. Specifically:
January 2026: 54 cents/liter
February 2026: 53 cents/liter
March 2026: 52 cents/liter
Why is this agreement important?
The signing, mediated by Minister Francesco Lollobrigida, aims to provide certainty to farmers during a period characterized by uncertainties in production costs.
While major trade associations such as Coldiretti and Confagricoltura have expressed satisfaction, challenges remain regarding sector competitiveness and the need for structural measures to support the export of our dairy products, including PDO cheeses like Grana Padano.
Looking Ahead
The agreement also includes a commitment to continue monitoring the market to intervene promptly if further adjustments are needed before the second quarter. For farmers, having a scheduled price means being able to plan investments and guarantee the high quality that defines Italian milk.
